FOREWORD:If MUSINGplaces aren't redundant the question hanging is why is there so much invested in them if fewer people cross there thresholds than arguably they once did. Yet bureaucrats who manage such places will tell you that more people attend musing places than attend sporting fixtures.
While a single major stadium match can pack tens of thousands of screaming fans into one venue on a given weekend, museums achieve higher cumulative numbers because they are open year-round, are far more numerous, and are highly accessible. So, here we have hollow political rhetoric offered up in support of the status quo. It is unsurprising given that the spruikers have skin in the game and depend upon it being so given that MUSINGplaces pay their rent.
Here it is perhaps worth recounting a little story shared among a group of friends. They had a question about the anatomy of an animal that wasn't being answered by any references to hand. So they called their museum to speak to their friend a zoologist. They were 'not at their desk' and the receptionist asked if they could help. They thought not, but left their question to be passred on to their friend. The next day the friendly receptionist called to say that the zoologist would be away for some days, BUT on their own initiative, they consulted Prof. Google PhD and recounted that advice in lieu of the zoologist's likely advice.
The point that was missed and vigorously argued was that Prof Google might well be correct but they were unable to contextualise the 'data'as might the zoology friend.
Whatever, MUSINGplaces's are essentially purposeful places albeit that all too often they are imagined as a kind of circus at which gladiatorial cum exotic cum instructive fixtures/events might be held/attended/encountered.
Thus they are often compared with 'stadiums' and especially so in regard to comarative attendances. Arguably MUSINGplaces and stadiums are political tools that 'leaders' use to stage 'events', large public events, to display their power and wealth to win votes and support from a largely compliant citizenary.
Here it is worth acknowledging the 'wisdom' that if there is anything that depresses thinkers more than their own cynicism, it is quite often that it still isn't as cynical as real life experiences in the real world.
